Meet the rest of the Amazing Yoga Team
Sean Conley, Co-founder of AY
I strive to live, teach, and practice Power Vinyasa Flow Yoga. Power Vinyasa Flow Yoga is simply practicing awareness and striving to make positive change. The physical practice of power yoga is strong, sweaty, and challenging. But at the same time it is rejuvenating, calming, and peaceful. It is a balanced practice.
I began practicing Baptiste Power Yoga after a brief 4 year career in the NFL which ended prematurely due to back and hip injuries caused from overuse and overtraining. I found yoga to be healing in many ways and not just physical. The mental peace that yoga offered was unexpected, but it was the driver to continue and eventually take up teaching. It is with this love and gratitude of yoga that I try to share it with as many people as possible. My football-related injuries have helped me bring in compassion, wisdom(hopefully), and lots of attempts at humor into every class.
I have been teaching in Pittsburgh since 2000 when we first opened Amazing Yoga. I engage in ongoing training with Baron Baptiste and many other talented vinyasa yoga teachers and I am thankful for their generosity in sharing and passing on their experiences.
My hope is that my classes are physically challenging and vigorous. The actual power in each class comes from each students’ personal experience. Meaning that we listen to our bodies as best as can be and make the practice healing. By practicing taking care of ourselves in a gentle manner we can grow and become more peaceful and aware.
I encourage students to tap into their internal wisdom and to let go of everything that is truly not a part of us. With this new found space we can open our hearts and minds to opportunities of service and love.
Along with Karen, we recently released the book “Amazing Yoga: A Practical Guide to Strength, Wellness, and Spirit.” The hope for the book was to express how simple yoga really is. It’s something that just requires a little bit of effort and some time. And the benefits can be profound and life changing.
With my football background, I was lucky enough to spend some time working with the Pittsburgh Steelers and learned immensely from it. One of my greatest passions is conducting teacher trainings. I have been facilitating these for 11 years and love every minute it. It brings me great joy to see aspiring teachers take the plunge into the yoga teaching world and they keep inspired all the time. I am thankful for them spending and putting up with me during these trainings.
